About
History
In 1997 Fix-IT founder Chad Osos, created an independent review site - thegameguys.com. With the editors' background in computers, and an expansive web of press contacts, this site was a huge success compiling early product reviews for computer and computer game related products. The site featured original reviews and editorials, such as an extremely popular guide on peltier effect coolers and their application to processor cooling. Thegameguys.com closed its doors officially in 2002, as the need for an editor submitted review site was met by thousands of other newly spawned sites as the internet population skyrocketted.
Acknowledging a need, Fix-IT.org was founded in 2004 as an e-zine dedicated around the idea of users helping users. Unlike most content-oriented sites, the community at Fix-IT is the most important aspect. Our site is built entirely around user submitted comment -- be it news, reviews, or tutorials; “for users, by users” is our goal.
Unfortunately, we’ve reached an era in the dot com craze where many of the mainstream websites out there become tainted by manufacturers’ (hardware and software) advertising dollars. If e-zines were paperback publications, that type of taint might just ruin all credibility. Still, many sites continue to taint and skew reviews day in and day out just to turn profit. We pride ourselves by saying you will not find that level of bias at Fix-IT. In fact, it would be impossible, as all content is user-submitted.
Given the fact that all content is user-submitted, it gives our user pool a chance at becoming internet stars, by creating online portfolios for their published work. The top reviews each week are professionally edited by the site staff, and submitted to the front page for millions of viewers.
We do not discriminate by age, gender, etc. At Fix-IT, the words do the talking.
Forums
In 2004, forums.fix-it.org was added. The forum portion of the site is the backbone of the site, delivering quality content, at all hours of the day. The subdomain is simply a redirect to our forums, simply to make user-browsing more enjoyable.
Glossary
In 2005, glossary.fix-it.org was added. The glossary portion of the site quickly became one of the highest hitting elements of the site. The comprehensive, computer-terminology glossary is unique to this site.
