Hey all, I'm looking for an external hard drive, firewire capable....at least 80 gig. Any ideas on what to get?

buy an enclosure and hardrive, cheaper than an all in one pakage.
for enclosures I would recomend Bytecc, mines been good to me, and for a drive that's up to you as everyone has had problems with one drive or another. I like Maxtor myself and if you want quiet get Seagate. |

Yeah, I would ditto muisejt on that.
I myself bought this type that supports both Firewire and USB 2.0. I did NOT buy it from there however...  I have a 20 GB drive in there and use it as a backup drive for home movies as well as pictures. Very very happy with it. |

whats wrong with usb 2.0? its faster. I agree with the enclosure and HD option.

Firewire is independent of the CPU's need to give it "direction" whereas USB 2.0/1.1 isn't.

aha. well everything I see these days is usb 2.0, I'm pretty sure it would work well either way...

According to http://www.pricewatch.com a nre 200Gb Western Digital 7200rpm HD is $98.00 shipped. And an external hd, of the exact same specs is $108.00 shipped. Just my two cents.
