Overused CD key

The other day one of my friends was reformatting his drives, afterwards he tried to install his legitmately purchased copy of windows. When prompted for the activation key he entered it only to find out that it was now somehow invalid. He called microsoft, and the tech told him that he had used his CD key to many times... He replied by daying that windows was the only thing that he had ever legitmately purchased from microsoft and that he was getting off the phone so he could pirate it. Has anyone else had this happen?

Cool

I remember once I switched my DVDRW/DVDROM drives to separate ide channels and Windows wanted me to "activate" it again.

I called and the tech implied that something was fishy and that he didn't beleive me, I immediately asked for his name and to speak with his supervisor. He shut up and activated Windows for me. Next time abot 6 mos later I got a female on the phone and she was nice as pie.

I didn't know there was a "limit" to how many times you could use your key.

I have reactivated many many many times, each time they seem to be a little suspicious, but its never really been a problem. He just needs to call back get a different rep and it should be no problem as there is not suppossed to be a limit on how many times you can reinstall.
