Virus and popups
My computer has been acting crazy lately, I keep getting Pop ups even when I am not connected to the internet. The problems began when I changed ISPs from aol to talk America, I am not sure what virus software I am running on my computer but I did install adware and ran that as well as AOLs spyware checker periodically. Now as soon as I turn my computer I get popups eventually up to 14 and the message that I need to connect to the internet or work offline. I also keep getting a popup msg box that says "winbo32, cannot quit". I get so many popsup especially when I connect to the internet that when I try to clost them it freezes my computer and I have to just shut it down and restart. What can I do to get rid of this??

The best solution is formatting the HDD clean and start fresh again.
It could also be that this "talk America" ISP's software be the culprit. Is it free? If so, chances are likely that you have to install bunch of spyware crap on your PC for it to be free... Have you also ran Spybots Search & Destroy 1.4? That "winbo32" sounds like the culprit... And I did find this. Hope you get your PC cleaned up! |

A quick Google search definitely shows "winbo32" to be malware, as Pete pointed out. My recommendations (in order) are:
1) Go to the Windows Update website and make sure your operating system has all the latest critical/security patches. What OS are you running, by the way? 2) Download, install, update, and run Spybot Search & Destroy. (link) Also, make sure to take advantage of its excellent "Immunize" function. 3) Remove all traces of AOL garbage from your computer. Uninstall it from the "Add/Remove Programs" portion of the Control Panel, or from an uninstall link in your Start Menu (if there is one). You might as well delete all the shortcuts that are left over afterwards, too. 4) Purchase and/or download, install, update, and run an anti-virus program. AVG Free Edition (link) is a very popular, high quality, and (duh) free option. 5) If none of these things fix your problem, follow the advice in the C|NET thread that Pete linked to. 6) If none of steps 1 through 5 help you, give us an update and we'll see what we can do. ![]() |

Have you tried mine and Pete's suggestions? Did they work?
