SP2 - TCP/IP internal error - "Unable to Query host name"
SP2 - TCP/IP internal error - "Unable to Query host name"
A friend installed SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop, 866M processor, 833MHz & 320MB RAM. Now he can't get on the net and gets the above error. Any ideas? |

SP2 enables the windows firewall by default. Disable it. Possibly reinstall NIC drivers... what kind of internet connection does he have?

And on a laptop, you usually want to upgrade only if the laptop manufacturer puts out its version to insure compatibility...

Turn off the firewall as posted above.
If this does not fix it: Open a cmd window and type IPCONFIG /ALL enter, and see if all the entries are correct. Then type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS enter. Check the TCP/IP settings for the nic, make sure that the DNS setting is correct and reachable. If you are running ICS off of another system, reconfigure the ICS setup. If still no joy: Try repairing the stack stack repair Last edited by Thermo : 10-06-2005 at 05:17 PM. |
