put your XP cd back in the drive and run the "repair" option. this should get you up and running again. Otherwise, run the machine with bartpe and reinstall the file to the folder off another machine.

Catalyst thank you.

If i lost my XP cd there's nothing much i can do right? I don't have any original restore discs i dont know if i lost them or they didn't come with them. I called sonypcs tech support and they say i have to pay 29.99 for an original restore disc which i dont mind paying but what if it doesn't resolve the issue?

Can you please give me some advice??

Thanks again.

Find a friend with a XP cd....

your not reinstalling it just repairing..

and once you've repaired it make SURE to write down your key somewhere

Still can't load Windows XP >=/

Still can't load Windows XP >=/ I was actually able to get into my sony vaio recovery console from the desktop (after hours of letting my computer load) however when i attempted to set the recovery it gave me a message that i was unable to process it unless i turned on my system restore. At that point i tried to turn on the system restore and it will not allow me to do it. I feel stuck because i dont wan't to lose all of my files that i have saved on my PC.. Does anyone have any other recommendations or can help me?

As Recon suggested, borrow an XP cd if you can't find yours.

During installation, choose 'install' rather than 'repair'. Once it goes through loading some files, it will recognize that you already have Windows XP installed on a partition. At this point it will ask you if you want to install on a different partition, repair this installation, etc. Choose repair. This option will only reinstall the system files needed, and your files should stay intact. You will need to reinstall device drivers/etc.
