A challenging problem: Crashing due to graphics acceleration

I have an acer Aspire 5000, which was working well until the warranty timed out and voided, with a video card problem. Whenever I run programs that use some graphics acceleration my computer completely crashes only leaving bands of colors – these colors are the colors that were being used in the program – vertically on the LCD. Recently, thinking that this would somehow help me determine what the problem was, I tested the stability of my video card with a video card stability tester and the same crash occurred after ~ one minute and thirty seconds. Upon runing the program again my computer crashed at ~ two minutes and thirty seconds. It seems that every program that uses video acceleration is the catalyst for this particular crash – not only programs that require a lot of acceleration. The oddest part is that I can run DVDs, AVI files and other movie files just fine. I have the newest drivers and software and I am almost positive that this problem cannot be solved by downloading any others or restoring older versions; but I could be wrong. My laptop is running an AMD Turion 64 mobile tech. Ml-30 processor. I have no idea how to fix this problem and therefore I ask for your help. If you know how to fix this problem or have any suggestions the help would be greatly appreciated.

running @ >90C is way to hot...

Well, I figured out that the problem is a over-heating/fan problem. My laptop fan needs to be replaced and upgraded. Does anyone know of a really efficient way to cool a laptop in addition to buying a new fan for minimal cost?

Getting a decent laptop coolers are a good idea... doesn't need to be fancy... Vantec and Zalman make good ones for starters...
