HOW TO: Show hidden entries in Add/Remove Windows Components in Windows 2000/XP

Go to %systemroot%\inf (ex. C:\WINDOWS\inf) which is a hidden folder so you may need to change Folder Options to view hidden files and folders. Then open sysoc.inf and remove HIDE from the lines you wish. Save and Exit.


HOW TO: Remove Links folder in IE

Go to Start -> Run -> regedit and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar and change LinksFolderName value from Links to nothing (i.e delete Links). Next open Internet Explorer and manually delete the Links folder from Favorites Menu. The Links folder will not be recreated. Exit Registry and Reboot


HOW TO: Minimize Outlook XP to tray

Go to Start -> Run -> regedit and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\O utlook\Preferences, add a new DWORD value and name it MinToTray and set it equal to 1. Exit Regisrty and open outlook, it should now minimize to the tray.


HOW TO: Disable MSN Messanger from starting up with Windows

Open MSN Messenger and go to Tools -> Options... -> General tab -> uncheck Run Messenger when Windows starts -> Ok


HOW TO: Stop Windows Messenger from opening when Outlook and Outlook Express are opened

In Outlook go to Tools -> Options -> Other tab -> uncheck Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook -> Ok

In Outlook Express go to Tools -> Options -> General tab -> uncheck Automatically log on to Windows Messenger -> Ok


HOW TO: Uninstall Windows Messenger in Windows XP

Without Service Pack 1 go Start -> Run -> RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove -> Ok

With Service Pack 1 to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> uncheck Windows Messenger -> Next -> Finish


HOW TO: Recreate the Show Desktop shortcut

Create a new text file and add the following to it:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

save the file as Show Desktop.scf
