I just bought this d-link 624 router & it doesn't work. I sent the first one back, because d-link said it was defective. The new one is doing the same as the first. It comes up with network unplugged & then I can't get back on line for a couple of minutes. I've changed the cables, reset explorer & reset local area connections. I've called d-link tech support 9 times, crap.

Are you trying to connect wirelessly or through CAT5?

Also, does your ISP allow access only by a specific MAC address? If so, you may need to clone your LAN card's address to the router or register the router's address over whatever you used before.

Did you install the PPPoE stuff onto your computer and then configure your router to use PPPoE?

note: obviously, this question assumes that Verizon still uses PPPoE...

Is there any way this is a modem problem, or did you just switch routers and the old one worked fine?

i don't think it's the modem. the modem works fine with the other router which was a linksy. Could it be my networking card?

Since everything worked before and all you switched was the router, the problem almost certainly lies with the router.

Since this is the second router you've tried that doesn't work, I think the problem is most likely with the setup. I know you've tried calling D-Link, but how about Verizon? Their wait times suck, but they should be more helpful with router setup than D-Link. Be prepared to double-check everything you've already done, but it'll worth it if they can find the problem.

I have the same router. Its worked flawlessly for me for a few months, wireless and wired connections. My friend has one too, and his works fine.

I had a prdoblem similar to yours but it was my nic. Changed nics, problem gone.

He's right, it can't hurt to try another NIC.
