Question DSL Accelerator??

Hi,
I have SBC Yahoo! DSL and i was looking at some sites, and they say that they have a program (Accelerator) that can speed up my internet. Is this true or just a bunch of BS?? If it is true, what is the best one?

Accelerators / download managers do a few things. They can split up a file and dl the pieces from different mirrors. However, putting the pieces back together doesn't always work. Some people end up with a non-working file once the pieces are put back together. They can also seek out the faster mirrors and really increase dl speed. The other, bigger drawback to most of them are they are laden with spyware/adware. You can get tracking cookies and targeted advertisements. It's sort of deciding on the lesser of two evils for most. Faster dl's vs. spyware/adware

I agree. Actually tweaking packet settings, rest lengths, etc is one thing... but those programs that "do it for you" do alot more than you're counting on most of the time. Take a look around www.dslreports.com they are loaded with useful information.
