Have you try moving the sound card to a different pci slot?

mute CD audio in volume control. If that does not work, try muting the other options other than wave and main volume. If nothing else works, mule the main volume, then turn the speakers up. if they continue to hiss / pop, then it is a hardware issue.

creative is known for this popping sound. I think it was a known issue when using the digital out. However, if i remember correctly, analog mode does not do this. then again, i might have the two backwards.

Thanks Tweakerpc98,

i have emu 1212m and creative 2 zs platinum, but i remember a while ago i got some kind of hiss from the window xp startup sound, and i also couldnt' get kernel streaming to work properly with the zs card, but was able to get asio working with my emu card. That's what prompt me to change the pci slot for my creative card and after that it worked properly.
