How to unistall mcafee
Well I have a Dell Dimension 3000(with windows XP) that i got about a year ago and it came with mcafee even though I asked for no anti virus protection because I have norton. Well anyways I’ve been lazy and haven’t uninstalled mcafee and installed norton but now that the free trail for mcafee is over i went to uninstall it and couldn't. I tried to uninstall it thought the add/remove software part of the computer but it did not work does anyone know how to completely uninstall mcafee so I can install norton

What kind of error/message did you get when you tried to uninstall it? You may want to try in safe mode. |

It looks like a registry key didn't get deleted.
Open up 'regedit' in your run box and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run See if mcafee is in there. That is where programs are set to automatically startup in windows. |

I can't say for sure, but take a look in the mcafee program files directory and see if it's empty.

start | run SERVICES.msc
look for any mcaffee services running and stop them - then disable them - do a 'find' for [mc*.*] <-note: (not all files/folders found will be mcafee - so look through them and removes the mcafee related ones) and do a 'find' for whatever other kind of funny names mcafee can have (like 'avert' - though their stinger product is sweet). In order for your finds to be effective - use "search 'hidden' files/folders". Run a reg cleaner like regseeker and do a find in the reg for mcafee... |
