New Key board

I spilled coffee in my Dell Inspirion notebook. My keyes are not functioning properly. Can some recommend how I can clean it out or possibly replace the key board? Thanks.

All inquiries are appreciated.

First off, shut the notebook down and turn it upside down, opened up. Do not let the laptop rest on soley the LCD hinges. Place a pillow or towel underneath of the unit, so it has room to breath and dry out.

If you leave it off and let it dry out, then it may work correctly after it dries entirely.

If not, you may need to get in it with a screwdriver, if you are qualified to do so. Laptop repair is not for the faint of heart, and can cause serious damage to your laptop, as well as voiding any warranty. However, spilling a beverage on your unit voids your warranty as well.

When you manage to remove all of the screws and have the shell apart, you can clean out the keyboard with rubbing alcohol. You would need to clean the pieces with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab (Q-Tip). Chances are, it will be fine after the first of the two suggestions. However, sometimes you might need to clean the keyboard out so the contacts have a clear path to the traces.

Sometimes you can also get away with diluting the problem by using a spray bottle and spraying the keyboard with rubbing alcohol as well. However, this is a risky road, as too much can cause overspill and short out the entire unit.

In the end, I would get this unit off to a certified technician if the data on the unit is critical, as it is the only way to ensure the best possible outcome.

Best wishes, and let us know if this helps.
